The idea of a mission statement is to address the focus, purpose, and plans of an organization. A worthwhile mission statement should specifically explain why an organization exists and what it aspires to accomplish in the future. It should express the organization's fundamental character, it's principles and it's works.

The task of creating a successful mission statement is to follow the purposes above and some basic guidelines. First, the statement should be a concise explanation. Try to keep it to a paragraph, no more than 30-35 words. Keep the information in formal language. Avoid jargon that will only be known to people working within the organization and possible misunderstood to others outside of the company.

Remember, as your organization grows, periodically review and possible revise the statement to make sure it represents the current services, philosophy and nature of the company. An effective mission statement will connect to the vision and values of your organization and it's workforce.
