Elements of an environmentalist ethic for a consumer age

With such movies as the Al Gore environmental epic, more and more are becoming more and more in tune with more than just the recycling bin.

Do we incorporate our consuming with the idea that the state of the atmosphere might wipe out our planet in 3 generations?
Do we boycott and ban what won't get in line?
Do we spend substantially more for those products more environmentally friendly?

Go without plastic grocery bags in the near future? Back to paper? Recycle boxes every time at those grocers that will put them near checkout counters?
Failing that bring our own?

Some will actually go hungry to remind self that boxes need be brought to grocery stores to set example.

In many cases there might be so little price difference that instead of 'buy domestic' will cede to 'got the green sticker' endorsement of a national standards board to attract.

While governments might determine what's clearly offside and what's onside such additional conditions as to merit sticker endorsement campaigns association with 'environmentally friendly', consumers might compete with their dollars at checkouts in many ways.

Conspicuous consumption bringing your own boxes into the grocery store these days?
Wasn't that just cheap yesterday? Real cheap?
