Tips for surviving a cross-country road trip with your sanity intact

Since a road trip is something of an adventure, the only thing that stands in the way of having fun with it is the driving I would imagine.
Doesn't have to be that way. It's a conditioning of the mind to think that the drive is a dreaded part of the adventure.
So how can we make it a lessor evil to deal with. Driving a convertible might help a good deal.

Stop often to smell the roses. No time frame to worry about is there? Every mile outside of your area is an opportunity for exploring. Just stopping for a burger, fries and a shake, and making conversation with the natives can be a way of taking the stress off the drive.

There is a lot to see and do between where you last stopped and where your at. But there is a way to go long distances without even being aware, and that's what I call "sleep driving" and it works.
How many times have you driven somewhere and suddenly your aware that you drove for a few miles and not even be aware that you did.
Well, you were deep in thought, and the subconscious took over the driving for you.
You made ever stop, every light, and made it safely.
Its kind of day dreaming.

So the thing to do is to use the drive for thinking or day dreaming. That's right, just think your way through the whole drive. Think of anything pleasant, or of projects you want to complete, or even use the time to think of how you want to approach that favorite person you had your eye on.
Take some great music along. What better way to motor than when you got some driving music to help make it pleasant.

When you realize you've covered a good distance, treat yourself by stopping off to see what's going on in the town your approaching.
It can be a lot of fun, and combine it with your reaching your ultimate destination, well, you've had quite an adventure.
