The future of the American automotive industry is not looking bright. There are cars which never go away and will be considered milestone or collection cars. American cars are best known for power. As long as there are certain industries around such as automobile construction, certain makes and models will always be in use. There are many things which affect the future of the American industry such technology, Europe, people, creativity etc.

Technology

Since technology is always changing it is becoming more difficult for American autos to be of any use. Technology leans towards efficiency whereas American auto manufacturers usually produce gas guzzlers. There are exceptions to the rule such as hybrid American cars, but nobody want to see a hybrid Corvette or a hybrid Shelby GT. New technology is often expensive which means it would have to be outsourced in order to remain competitive with pricing. If American cars are being outsourced then they are no longer American. Can you imagine a Corvette being assembled in Germany?

Europe

Americans are adopting this European lifestyle which means European cars like Audi, Mercedes, BMW are becoming more popular. Since European cars have better reliability than American cars it won't be long before you rarely see American cars on the road. American cars were in trouble once the Japanese introduced their line of cars.

People

When you watch tv, you will notice that people around you are starting to notice American society shifting to this European culture. The workforce mentality of America is still the same in terms of "work, work, work" but people are liking the European culture. Once people start to fully accept the culture you will see makes like GMC, Lincoln, Cadillac, Ford lose what makes them special. No one wants to see American cars become European cars, but automakers are trying to survive after overproduction.

Creativity

American cars are losing their creativity. There are many ways to look at the production European cars and the effects of these on American cars. Since European cars are geared towards becoming a common cars American automakers can focus on what Ferrari focuses on, which is taking their time with production models. American automakers should get in touch with the roots of their company and create new designs. Creativity has been lacking for years. American automakers should focus on having a balance between exotic cars and classic cars.

The future of the American automotive industry depends on a variety of things. There are many ways to move in a positive direction, but it starts at the top.
