Green cleaning isn't just good for the environment but for your health too! To clean green though doesn't have to be an expensive affair; many natural green products are just as cheap as commercial conventional cleaners. The problem with conventional non-green cleaners is although they may clean the bathroom, they bring along with them a whole host of hazardous chemicals which infect your personal breathing space and home environment, besides them being toxic to the greater environment. Luckily, there are some eco-friendly brands of cleaning products that are made from natural sources and provide great cleaning solutions, like Ecover and Seventh Generation are two of the most popular. However, there are also a variety of homemade ways to green clean your bathroom.

To de-clog drains

Rather than using nausea-inducing industrial-grade acids to pour down your drain, consider opting for a combined mixture of half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar to pour down the drain. Allow the mixture to work for half an hour and then flush with hot water. If the clogged drains are of a stubborn type, consider using an enzyme-based green cleaner like Nature's Miracle to eat away at the clogs.

For cleaning mirrors and glass

A mixture of a quarter cup of vinegar with distilled water to fill a 32 ounce spray bottle will prove an efficient spritzing spray to sparkling clean mirrors and glass; alternatively you can mix a half and half solution of vinegar and water. What's more, vinegar is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and so much healthier and greener, not to mention cheaper than the common blue colored toxic glass cleaners. It's recommended to spritz the mixture of vinegar and distilled water and wipe away with microfiber cloths – since they are reusable and very efficient.

For floor tiles and mold

A bucket of a vinegar-based all-purpose cleaner or one cup of borax mixed with one gallon of water can clean away any mold and clean the dirt on grout.

For the toilet bowl

There’s really no need to be using bleach and strong harmful chemical-based products, when an effective whitening mixture of half a cup of vinegar combined with a large spoon of baking soda can be poured into the toilet bowl and left to work for half an hour before  scrubbing with the toilet brush and then flushing away clean.

Basic sink scrub

A mixture of lemon juice and salt or baking powder paste is an efficient and effective green mixture to scrub the sink and bath.

Thankfully, there are lots of possibilities today when it comes to green cleaning, and you can purchase green-cleaning products or use your own homemade natural ingredients to get your bathroom nice and clean, in a green way.
