I am yours,
yours as an object,
an object as you want to see,
with no tarnishes of tears,
nothing that feels pain,
nothing that I cause.
I am yours when the sun shines;
let me share the warm rays with you.
When it rains,
you will feel it alone,
for I can not handle the rain,
so how can I shelter you from it?
I must be sheltered from it myself.
How can I protect both of us?
Is there an intruder in the house?
Let me take him on.
Is there an intruder in you?
You will need to fight it yourself.
I will watch the hideous creature devour you,
because that is human nature.
We watch the side shows,
like the accidents on the highways,
those that are removed from us,
but not really.
Please hurry and clean it up,
we don’t want to see the blood.
Please hold the tears,
we don’t want to know of pain within you or us.
I die slow deaths so often, so very alone,
why should I believe,
being married to you
makes me less alone or more alive?
