Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
You'd best be careful about the mate that you choose.
Some love you never, some love you forever;
Some come and take until all ties you sever.

Some husbands vow they will always be true,
while all the time thinking of that somebody new.
Some wives will cook and keep a house clean,
but others will play until the money is lean.

Handsome is nice, but it comes with a price -
he'll be the one ladies love to entice.
Beauty is good if that is what you need,
but beauty loves herself, no family she'll feed.

Long years ahead, much life you will live;
You will do best with a husband who gives.
There is no perfect couple, no, not any.
I suppose in fairy land you could find plenty.

But adults can't live there, they must be real.
You know, choosing a mate isn't Let's Make a Deal.
Yet, many rush in where angels fear to tread
and only end up with a partner they dread.

Marriage is funny when you count the wins.
Couples will tell you, "It only depends,
do we count the losses before we count wins?"
"It's much like a sweepstakes. I've not yet won,
but I must keep entering if I hope to have fun."
