Poetry: The loss of love

by Graydyl

Created on: December 21, 2011

In desperation, she walked up to the door and tiptoed to level her right eye with the peephole. The bedroom door from across the hallway loomed out through the convex peephole lens at her — an empty hallway. Her eye strained in vain attempt to catch anything extra out of what periphery the one eye had in the limited circular view given via the peephole.

She finally stepped away from the door reluctantly, toes cramping from tiptoeing, eyes watering from holding them open for so long, afraid to blink for fear of missing anything.

Dejectedly, she stood there for a few more minutes, desperately listening for the telltale flip-flop or … anything at all, any movement that might suggest his approach. Hearing nothing, she collapsed back at her desk, shoulders hunched over as she checked her texts, also in vain anticipation. beep beep beep - !

But no, it’s only another friend wanting to check psets.

He never came that night, and in her dreams she called out his name until her voice was hoarse and only whispers of his name were left in her.
