Peanut butter blossoms are a wonderful treat anytime, especially around the holidays.  Anyone who enjoys a mouth-watering blend of chocolate and peanut butter will definitely go crazy over these cookies.  They are simple to make, and kids will look forward to placing chocolate kisses on the cookies before eating them.

These delicious cookies are called "peanut butter blossoms" because they do indeed look like flower blossoms.  The chocolate kisses will resemble the center, while the cookies themselves stand as "petals."  Making the cookies doesn't  take very long; their average preparation time is about twenty minutes.

This recipes creates about 48 cookies.  To make the peanut butter blossoms, you will need the following ingredients:

48 Hershey's Kisses

3/4 cup peanut butter

1/3 cup packed light brown sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 - 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

Extra granulated sugar for dough rolling

You will also need a good heavy spoon for mixing, a large bowl, and an ungreased cookie sheet.

♦ Directions

1.) Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

2.) As the oven is heating, remove the wrappers from the kisses.

3.) Beat the shortening and peanut butter in a large mixing bowl until they are well blended.  Add 1/3 cup of granulated sugar and the brown sugar.  Whip them until they are fluffy.

4.) Add the egg, milk and vanilla, and stir well.  Continue beating by adding the flour, baking soda and salt into a peanut butter mixture.

5.) Round the dough into 1-inch balls.  Roll each ball in the granulated sugar and place on the cookie sheet.

6.) Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes or until they have a light brown color.

7.) Take the cookies out of the oven and set them aside.  Then immediately insert the chocolate kiss into each cookie.  Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack.

Your family will love sharing the holidays with these delightful cookies.  Decorate them with sprinkles for a touch of color.  Eat them with some hot chocolate as you're cuddling up near a fireplace.  Enjoy the cookies as a light snack.  They are simply irresistible for someone who has a sweet tooth.
