Poetry: Thank you, God

Now I lay down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
My guardian angels against
Powers of darkness protect me
All my burdens at your feet
I lay because to serve you
Is a joy but to serve any other god
A chore.
If it be your will let my consciousness
To me return the following morn'
To continue my journey through life
But should you find it necessary to
Call me home before the morn’ I
Pray you my soul to keep and console
The ones who loved me and the ones
I loved.
Provide for those who depended on
Me and bless those who’ll help them
Overcome.
Teach them the lesson of self-reliance
