I listened as you spoke of your hopes, your dreams.
I grieved with you in your sorrows.
I supported your efforts.
I encouraged you.
I laughed at your silly jokes, funny or not.
I loved you with all my heart.
I spoke of my hopes and dreams.
I had griefs and sorrows.
I made efforts.
I needed encouragement.
I told jokes.
I told you I loved you.
What was returned to me?
Blank looks.
Comments to shatter my hopes, my dreams.
Isolation in my sorrow.
Unacknowledged effort.
Discouragement.
Frowns.
Yet I loved you anyway.
But I wonder.
I really wonder.
How much is enough?
What will be enough
To either receive love in return,
Or make me turn away.
How much is enough?
What is the answer?
