Thinking about God on Christmas Day

Thinking about God on Christmas day is the most appropriate way to celebrate the holiday. God should remain utmost in our mind on all days, but on Christmas Day, when we celebrate His Holy birth, He should be foremost in our thoughts. We should honor Him and direct our thoughts and behavior toward Him not only on Christmas day, but on all other days of the year.

As we think of God on Christmas day, our attitude should be one of reverence and gratitude, remembering He was born to die for our sins. There is no greater gift than the one He gave us by dying on Calvary's cross. Christmas is a season of giving, a little creative thinking can get you into the true spirit of the season.

Reading the Bible on Christmas day is a good way to turn our thoughts toward Him. Begin the day with a passage from the book of Luke. Take time later to read the Christmas story of His birth with your family. Discuss the meaning of this great story with family. Explain to children and grandchildren the importance of Christ's birth and the reason for the Christmas season. This is a good way to instill the true meaning of the holiday in the younger generation. Gently explain that material gifts are our way of showing love to one another, but the main purpose of Christmas day is to honor our Savior's birth.

Christmas day thoughts of God may include a special church service where you worship. Prayers of thanks and praise are usually high on the list of Christmas thoughts of God. Sharing with those less fortunate is a sign of Christ-like behavior. Think ahead to do something for a homeless child or an elderly person who is alone during the holiday. Proverbs 14:21 says “ ...blessed is he who is generous to the poor. “

Thoughts on Christmas day may turn to how you can be more like Christ. Don't attempt a complete, dramatic change all at once. Begin with small acts of kindness. Keep Christ utmost in your thoughts on Christmas Day and on all other days as well. If you are not a Christian, ask Him to forgive you of your sins on the basis of your belief that He died on the cross for you. You can become a new person with thoughts of God on Christmas day.
