The elves just kept popping the candy and cookies in their mouths to keep up the pace. They were beginning to get red circles under their eyes. They just wanted to keep going because they did not want to disappoint anyone especially Santa. It was all the technology this year that had them working so hard. They were also impressed with how good so many kids had been, and that was another reason not to let the children of the world down.
The alarm sounded, Santa was coming back to trade for a full sleigh. The elves scurried around to make sure the sleigh was ready to go. They checked the nuclear power engine in the back. Santa loved the old reindeer way, but the nuclear power allowed the reindeer to relax during flight. They just had to go through the motions. Santa had lost a lot less reindeer thanks to the nuclear power. The door opened and the empty sleigh came through with Santa passed out in the front seat.
Everyone rushed up to see what was wrong with him. Greeny elf squeezed him on the nose and he coughed a little and woke up. They all made a collective “OHHHHH.” They realized he had just fallen asleep again. Santa smiled and thanked Greeny for waking him up. Santa opened the door and then headed for his office. Greeny followed him quietly confirming all details for the next trip. Santa nodded in agreement. They were perfect partners. They had been getting Christmas out on time for over a hundred years now. Greeny was even better than his father, but Santa would never say that to him. They both had respected his father very much. Greeny left him so he could use the bathroom in private and then continued talking when Santa came out.
Santa got into the fresh new sleigh with the hot cocoa Mrs. Claus just handed him and a large Santa dinner to go. Santa thanked all the elves for their hard work as he had always done and said he would be back soon for Russia’s load. The elves had already hooked up the reindeer to the new sleigh, and the rush of cold air and snow came in as they opened the gigantic workshop door. Santa flipped up the nuclear buttons, and then gave a slight tap to the reindeer and they started forward. The sleigh was out of the shop and just as the sleigh began to lift of the ground Santa said, “ Merry Christmas Everyone and a Happy New Year.”
