Janita had noticed a boy in her fourth grade classroom who resembled her. His name was Russ. Everyone in the room told her they looked just like twins, only she was a girl and he was a boy. He was slightly taller, but they even walked somewhat alike and their ears were shaped just alike.
Curious, Janita went home one day, in fact a few weeks before Christmas, and asked her mom, Mrs. Allen, if she ever had a twin brother. Mrs. Allan did not answer her directly, but looked away from Janita and explained that there were some complications when Janita was born and yes, she did have other siblings.
"Mom, do I have a twin brother- one that looks just like me- only he's a boy and I'm a girl?" Janita inquired.
"You might," softly spoke her mother as small tears began to water her face.
"What's wrong mom? Why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?" the nine-year old wanted to know.
"No, dear," it's just that- well, there was a little boy born shortly after you. He was so cute, but I couldn't take him home with me because the adoption agency would only let us have you, a baby girl."
"So mom, I was adopted?" Janita said with sadness in her voice.
"Yes, my dear, but we've had you since the day you were born, and you are ours."
"Where is my real mother and dad?" the inquiring child asked.
"We don't know, my dear. Your father and I only know that your biological parents still live in this city, but we have no contact with them."
That evening, Janita began to think. "Maybe, just maybe, Russ is my brother."
"In that case, I want to give him something for Christmas"
The next day Janita and her mom went shopping. A large stuffed panda bear caught Janita's eye and she asked Mrs. Allen if she could purchase it for a present for someone special.
"If it'll make you happy, my dear, yes." her mother smiled.
Finally it was the week before Christmas. Every fourth grade classroom had a gift exchange and gift giving. Janita had picked the name of Lueesa Granton. For her she selected a lovely old fashioned keepsake doll. Luessa had
