Children need to be entertained around the clock. When they are home from school on the weekend, you want to find fun activities for them. There are many different things you can do with the kids.
Outdoor Fun
Let children enjoy the beauty of nature at a park. You can go on a hike or let them play at a playground. Some parks offer special amenities such as horseback riding and paddleboat rides. Take your bikes and/or roller skates for some healthy physical activity. Make sure to put sunscreen on them if you will be out for a while.
There are many other outdoor activities that can be fun for kids. If you live near a farm, they may be able to pick fresh fruit like strawberries and blueberries. Disney's Family Fun suggests going apple picking in the fall. The kids may enjoy the healthy food more when they pick it from the bushes and trees. You can also help your kids get healthy by playing an outdoor sport with them like soccer. You can even just play catch.
Beaches can be a lot of fun for the kids. They can pick up seashells and make sand castles. Alternatively, a pool can provide fun during the warmer months.
Games
Kids of all ages love to play games, and you will find numerous opportunities. If they like to watch them, then you can take them to a sporting event like a baseball game. Alternatively, they may enjoy going to an arcade. A mini-golf course can provide fun for the entire family.
They also can enjoy bowling at the local lanes. Some bowling alleys offer fun sessions with light shows and fun music.
Movies
Many children enjoy going to the movies. Of course, make sure that the film is age-appropriate. For something a little different you can look for a film in an IMAX or 3D format.
Museums
If you want your children to both enjoy and learn from the weekend activities, then take your kids to a museum, suggests Family Education. If they are young, then you can look for a children's museum like the Young at Art Museum. You will find science museums, art museums and other teaching institutions aimed at all different age groups.
In addition to year-round activities, you can also look for special fairs and festivals. Kids may enjoy a Renaissance festival or a county fair. Cities and counties offer different children's events. Look in the newspaper to find activities local to you.
Try to offer your children different experiences. With fun entertainment, you can build a special childhood that they will remember forever.
