How 'Blowfish' could be the ultimate hangover cure

Greasy fried breakfasts, the hair of the dog, and even sheep eyeballs, have all been touted as hangover cures. Now a new hangover cure is being touted as the ultimate remedy for those ghastly moments when imbibing too much the night before impinge on the next morning’s peak performance. Blowfish is the name of an effervescent pill that pops into water to create a hangover cure that works, according to

Hangovers.com.

The not so secret ingredients in Blowfish are simply a combination of Aspirin, caffeine, and antacid, a cure devised by Harvard graduate Brenna Haysom in her own quest for a remedy that would work. Two tablets contain the maximum dose of Aspirin and 120 mg of caffeine. The caffeine dosage is less than that in a Starbucks Grande brewed coffee that packs in 320 mg of caffeine.

Unlike other hangover products Blowfish does not contain vitamin supplements as they are absorbed too slowly to have an immediate restorative effect. It is claimed the cure works in just 15 to 30 minutes as the combination of ingredients makes them more effective than taking them separately. The pills are manufactured by Rally Labs LLC in New York.

The tablets are fast-acting when taken the morning after the night before. According to The Star Haysom said “There’s nothing in the product that’s so revolutionary or new, but what’s great about it is that it combines a couple of things in a way that is specifically tailored for hangovers.”

Haysom is keen to stress that Blowfish isn’t an excuse to get obliterated on alcohol, saying “It’s more created for your weekday hangover, where you probably didn’t intend to have too many, but you have to get up and go to work — and you don’t have time to take your usual concoction.”

Haysom admits that although her product is hot in demand people don’t tend to like the name of Blowfish, associating it with poisonous sushi. However the tablets do blow up in water and the name is easy to recall, even for those suffering from ghastly hangover symptoms.

The FDA has approved Blowfish as an over-the-counter hangover cure that helps to “restore mental alertness or wakefulness when experiencing fatigue or drowsiness associated with a hangover.” (Daily Mail)

Although it won’t be generally available until 2012, those anticipating the Christmas curse of drinking too much, can purchase it online through Hangover Com., or pop into Ricky’s outlets in New York City.
