Instead of purchasing expensive holiday gift tags, make your own with a little creativity. Many of these take little time but can add a special touch to your gifts. Try one of the following methods.
Photographs
You can use small photographs as gift tags. Take a picture of your child holding a sign that says "Happy Holidays." Get it developed or print it out into a small wallet size photograph. Use a hole puncher to make a tiny hole in one of the corners and attach a small piece of string or yarn to attach it to the gift. If you desire, you can make these even more personalized by having the children hold up a customized sign for each present.
Children's drawings
If you have children, then their drawings can be your gift tags. They can draw, color or paint something that is related to the holiday you celebrate. For instance, children who celebrate Christmas can make the tag into the shape of a Christmas tree ornament. Children who celebrate Hanukkah can make it into the shape of a dreidel. Cut them out. Tape or tie a string to attach it to the gift, and write your message on the other side.
Newspaper gift tag
Cut out parts of the newspaper for your gift tags. During the holiday season, you may find headlines or advertisements that say "Happy Holidays!" or have other appropriate messages for gift tags. Simply cut them out to glue on as your gift tag. You can cut out different words to spell out a message or put in pictures that relate to your recipient. Because the paper is so thin, you may want to glue it to a cardboard backing.
Calendar day gift tag
You may simply throw out your calendars at the end of the year. Instead you can use them to make your gift tags. If it contains pretty pictures such as photographs of cute animals, then you can cut those out for your gift tags. If you celebrate Christmas, then you can go through the calendar and cut out the squares of each month that are on the 25th. These squares can be your gift tags as you can write your messages right in the boxes.
You can add a little fun to your holiday presents by including some homemade holiday gift tags. You can also add embellishments like stickers and ribbons, according to Better Home and Gardens. You will save money and give a signature look to your presents.
