Living alone doesn’t mean that you have to cancel Christmas. It’s always nice to have your apartment, house or trailer decorated for the Christmas holidays because it makes you more jovial when people come to visit and can also help to reduce the depression that can become evident by some who spend their Christmas holidays alone. If you have recently moved to a new city where you may not know anyone, decorating your home makes the holidays seem brighter and cheerier, even if it is just for yourself. You don’t have to go all out when decorating for yourself, as just a few basic decorations will do. A Christmas tree and a door wreath make for a wonderfully decorated home if your budget is tight, and each year you can buy one small item to add to your Christmas decorating box.
Buying a pre-decorated Christmas tree is a great idea for people who live alone, especially those who live in apartments. Instead of having to go out every year to buy a small tree that fits in both the elevator and your apartment, and storing all of the ornaments, lights, tree stand and everything else that you adorn your Christmas tree with, the pre-decorated tree is convenient and natural looking. An already decorated tree can be anywhere from a small desktop tree of 6 to 18 inches to a life-like tree of up to 6 to 8 feet high. They come with the decorations already setup, and all that you have to do is take it out of the box, open it up (they fold up like accordions) and place it in a corner by a window.
Of course, it’s always nice to have the inside of the fridge and the liquor cabinet decorated for the holidays when you are alone. A bottle of Bailey’s Irish Crème, some fruit and nut cake and some butter cookies make for great holiday decorations that can be both consumed and enjoyed. If you have traditional foods and snacks that you grew up having each year, make sure to have some of them around during the holidays as they can conjure great memories at times of solitude during the holidays.
You can decorate your living room window for the holidays with LED light strings and window cut-out decorations, but since the lights are left on all night it’s usually best not to do the bedroom window as it may keep you up at night. It’s extremely simple to decorate a window from the inside with the advent of LED Christmas lights, canned snow and sticky decorations. You can purchase cut-outs like reindeer, Santa, decorated trees or nativity scenes that attach to windows and have holes cut into them for placing light strings. You can add to this with the addition of some fresh pine wreaths, some ribbons and sparkles. And placing all of the Christmas cards that you have received on a string that winds along a banister or the top of a wall, window or set of cupboards will both make a great decoration and provide a great way to display your cards.
