The importance of family structure

In this society of different family dynamics, a solid family structure helps contribute to the security and growth of a healthy family.  The family structure has changed tremendously over the past 50 years. With divorce figures so high and remarriage inevitable, keeping the family secure in the knowledge they can depend and trust their personal structure, gives family members a sense of security.

The acceptance of same sex parenting is one example and another is single parenting.  Both are different from the traditional “mom and dad” lifestyle but both can succeed beautifully. As long as the family structure provides security and a sense of home for the children and adults alike, you can build a strong and happy life for your family.  Parents can provide a stable environment for their children by following a few structural guidelines.

Consistency

It is crucial for a family to have consistency.  When a parent is consistent in their discipline, it creates healthy boundaries for the children. They know what is expected of them, how to behave and what the consequences will be if they do not follow the boundaries set for them.  This will build a sense of security as well.  Consistent love and guidance contributes to self-confidence and strong self-esteem.

Encouragement

Offering constant encouragement will build confidence in the family members. A family is a place where you can be cranky and moody and still be loved. The ups and downs are expected and accepted. You can lean on one another and this continues to build the bond between the family members.  Children thrive on encouragement.

Family values

The family structure depends on family values. When parents instill values they are giving their children a solid foundation to take with them as they move beyond the safety of home. By example, the parent or parents can provide their children with tools needed to grow into productive, respectable adults.

Building a family structure does not happen overnight. It takes desire and dedication. Parents need to create the foundation and build from there to have a stable, happy household.

Extended family

A strong family structure includes all those in your life that love your family. Grandparents, aunts/uncles and close friends. The greatest family is one built on a strong support system.  Reaching out to those around you who care about the well-being of your loved ones gives immeasurable encouragement. The saying, “It takes a village” is true in all families.

The future of your children will depend on this attitude. It is this structure that defines the security of children and helps them to grow into independent adults and enables those values when building their own family life.   Regardless of the dynamics of your family; be it two parents, single parenting, two moms or two dads, grandparents raising their grandchildren, there is one thing for certain, the family structure is the heart and soul of life.   .
