Flash fiction: A crowded street

by Roxanne Carson

Created on: December 09, 2011

As I walked the crowded city streets of Boston, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by the chaos of the Christmas shoppers. People raced passed me as if they were racing in a Grandpre and the ruder they were the more points they’d acquire.

I stopped dead center of the sidewalk and watched as the snow danced in the light of the lamp post and as it fell faster and faster around me I became more hypnotized by its simple glistening sparkle. I realized how delicate and unique each flake was and I began to think of how simple life no longer seemed.

People continued to sweep past me creating a cyclone of snow that began at my feet and gracefully twiddled up my body. Despite the stampede of people that continued without me, I couldn’t help but feel utterly at peace and as I quietly stood there in my trance I didn’t seem to realized what was happening.

I was now the human snowman that stood on the crowded city street corner of Boston and no one was the wiser. I starred out of my snow covered eyes and watched the rat race of life pass me by and at that moment I wondered what it was all for.
