Poetry: Ship in a bottle

by Alexandra Wilson

Created on: December 09, 2011

The ship in a bottle
Majestic
But exposed
Boasting of power
Yet the bottle stays closed
It beckons memories of freedom
Though it lay beached in glass
No wind whipping through it
Just a crowded, cramped mast
What it is
And what is appears
Blankets surety of purpose
With the sum of one's fears
Pretending does little good
As a ship, bottled will learn
It's when ships sail open ocean
That admiration is earned
