Why the world is not going to end in December 2012

Since the beginning of ages, man has longed to know the secrets of the universe, how he came to be and what will happen to him when he dies.  These mysteries conjure deep thought, personal reflection, religious teachings and scientific study.

In recent years the age of technology has afforded the ability to tap in to the past and the possibilities of the future in ways that heretofore were the things of science fiction. The study of ancient artifacts, structures and hieroglyphics, along with modern analysis of the cosmos, has created quite a stir. Both the spiritual world and entertainment industry are buzzing about the Mayan calendar and end-of-days prophecy.

Those who take particular interest in the Mayan calendar recognize that great legends from various cultures across the globe from Native Americans to Japanese to Icelanders and Egyptians, among many more, reference an end-of-days event sure to end most if not all of mankind. Many of these mythological stories encode a 25,000-year period of the earth’s orbit.  While the code cannot be proven, the commonality of the same story from different origins has given the prophecies surrounding this code some weight.

According to these stories and even the Christian book of Revelation in the Bible, there will be a time of great doom and gloom that falls upon the earth before God or the gods create a new earth (though no one knows the day nor hour). Mayan calendar followers and scholars believe that this 25,000-year period reaches its conclusion sometime at the end of 2012.

During this period of time the earth participates in what is referred to as the precession of the equinoxes, where the earth’s rotation slows and actually changes direction by the wobbling of the earth’s axis. To many ancient prophecy scholars, the current precession associated with the Mayan calendar is time to ring the alarm!

The precession of the equinoxes is accompanied with great changes in the Earth.  Anyone who watches the news knows that there is definitely change happening in and on the Earth.  Catastrophic occurrences are abounding all around. Earthquakes, tsunamis, violent tornadoes and hurricanes seem to be a part of the regular news feed.  Climate change, while good for debate, is obvious, as ice-capped mountains and glaciers are melting away. Wars and revolutions of people and cultures demanding a new way of life are erupting throughout the Middle East and a churning of anger and dissent
