Millie took a deep breath of the fresh cool air as she walked down the street. She continued down the street, as the wind tossed her brown hair every which way. As she passed Fifth Street, she slowed down.
As she approached the next street, a noise came from the alley. Stopping a moment to listen, someone was asking for help. What should she do? It wouldn’t be safe for her to leave the main street to search the alley.
Millie called out, “who is there?’. In a few seconds a child's voice answered “Please help me. I am hungry and cold.” “Please come out of the alley. I want to help you.” Millie replied. “I am afraid,” Said the child. Millie answered, “I will meet you half way.”
Millie decided to take a leap of faith and begin her journey into the alley. She saw a small child huddled about two feet inside the alley corner.
Millie picked her the child hugged her so tight. She wouldn’t stop crying. She was cold, Millie took her coat off and wrapped her up in it, walked out of the alley caught the bus and went home.
Millie prepared a breakfast dinner for the both of them. After eating, Millie began asking her question. The child's name was Stella, her mother had abandoned her two weeks ago. She had found shelter in the alley, hadn’t eaten anything for two weeks. Tears poured from her blue eyes as she talked to Millie. She was four, had blond hair, blue eyes and so skinny, needed lots of love and tender care.
Millie wanted to protect her and take care of her for the rest of this her life. She also knew that to do this, proper persuaders must be followed.
After a nice warm bath. Millie found a long sleeve shirt for Stella to sleep in. She was so beautiful. Why would a mother want to abandon her beautiful daughter?
Stella knelt by be bed and said her prayers. “Thank you God, for bring someone to help me. Please watch over my Mama.”
As Millie looked at Stella so peaceful at sleep, she was glad that she had taken the leap of faith to search for the cry of help that came from the dark alley.
