How to have an inexpensive family Christmas

by Betty Blake

Created on: December 07, 2011

Time waits on no man or woman for that matter. Once again, the Christmas season has arrived; and, like millions of Americans and those around the globe, many aren't ready for this festive time. The thing is, globally, several are without employment which makes it rather challenging and stressful to go through the period. Christmas is synonymous with celebrations; and celebrations mean money sending. Children are looking forward to gifts and toys under the Christmas trees. Then, there is the high cost of the grocery bills to content with in order to prepare for the big day.

This lack of enough finance can cause havoc on many families during this wonderful time of the year. But, thankfully, there can be an inexpensive family Christmas if families take certain measures. It is important that parents have a family meeting and be upfront with their children at the appropriate age and express the difficulties that the family are experiencing. Therefore, the pricey gifts cannot be had. Yes, they will be a little disappointed but, once you reassure them they that the most important thing is that the family will be together and will have fun and lots of laughter, a huge part of the work is done.

When money is tight during the Christmas season, it is vital that creativity be the guide. Some of the ways to have an inexpensive family Christmas and still have great comfort and joy are:

Sightseeing in neighborhood

Take the family on a sightseeing adventure around your neck of the woods. Go observe your neighbors' decorations and snap pictures to view later on. Go home and download these and sip hot chocolate with whip cream. The colorful lights and other decorations will warm the heart and place great smiles on your face.

Have a sing-a-long

Go ahead and download the Christmas carols from the Internet. And, have a sing off with all the members of your family. You don't have to possess a chart topping voice to sing the "Twelve days of Christmas". Don't be afraid to make up your own words if needs be. Who says you have to follow suit. So what if your voice is a little pitchy; Simon Cowell is not around to judge. It will be great laughter and fun with your loved ones.

Watch Christmas on the tube

Instead of taking the family out to the movies that cost a fortune, check out your On-Demand movies on your cable channel. Or, dust off your Christmas DVD's. There are dozens of movies to choose from that are free. You have a choice of the classics and the contemporary
