Football. My lifelong love of football is as much a part of my DNA as my love for the simple joys of life, Saturday shopping trips to the thrift store with my Mom and the wonderful taste of  homemade chocolate chip cookies that are fresh out of the oven.  For as long as I can remember, I have been a dedicated, diehard fan of the Washington Redskins.  It is possible that I came out of the womb singing the Redskins fight song, “Hail To The Redskins.” Even as an infant, I already had the makings of a true Washington Redskins fan.

When the Washington Redskins went to the playoffs in 1987, I was only ten years old.  Being a Washington DC area native, our beloved Skins making their first playoff appearance since 1981 was headline making news.  For weeks, our Redskins were the lead story on every local newscast.  When the Redskins represented the NFC East in Super Bowl XXII, our school held a Pep Rally in their honor.  As any true fan would, I was sitting in the front row of the assembly cheerfully and enthusiastically leading the entire school in singing, “Hail To The Redskins.”

True Washington Redskins fans are there to fully encourage and support the Redskins at all times, throughout the ups and downs of both joyous victories and discouraging challenges.  Real Washington Redskins fans never waver in their love, loyalty and devotion to the Washington Redskins.  These fans are just as excited and cheer just as loudly for the team when the Redskins record is 3-8 on the season as they do when the Redskins record is 8-3 on the year.  In the mind of a true Redskins fan, the number of losses that the Washington Redskins have in a particular season means nothing.  Showing dedication and commitment to the Burgundy and Gold, the love of a true fan carries on throughout numerous unexpected hurdles as well as ordinary obstacles and setbacks.

One of the things that gives me joy and pleasure is having Washington Redskins season tickets.  I love the unity and camaraderie of watching the Redskins games with my fellow Washington Redskins fans. I know all of the fans who sit with me in my section by their first names.  Not so long ago, we were strangers passing one another in an endless abyss of fellow football fans.  More recently, we have become friends amidst the game day anticipation and excitement.  True Redskins fans delight in cheering for a Redskins victory game after game.
