The left has been threatened by our 2nd Amendment for decades. Gun ownership rights keep tyranny at bay. The present administration has taken an aggresive path to take away our 2nd Amendment rights, in the form of a deadly ATF program called Fast and Furious. All of the known facts about this program say that it was used to point the finger at the American gun owners, gun dealers and supporters of the 2nd Amendment.
The Obama administration made this assault on gun rights a priority. By April 15, 2009, Eric Holder, President Obama and Hillary Clinton had all gone south of the border and blamed the US for the drug violence in Mexico. All said that 99% of the guns involved in Mexican's drug wars came from the USA. This 99% was factually incorrect and was quickly proven to be so. As it turned out, the figure was more like 17% of the guns traced, which was a percentage of the guns at issue, came from the USA.
These facts were not what the administration wanted to hear. Within months, Fast and Furious, the gun walking program was started. The ATF bought military grade weapons with taxpayer dollars. They enlisted the help of law-abiding gun store owners to sell the guns to the Mexican drug cartel straw buyers and the weapons were allowed to walk into Mexico without being tracked. Over 2,000 guns were given to violent Mexican gangs and low and behold they started turning up at murder scenes. Border Agent Brian Terry was doing his job, protecting our border when he was gunned down in cold blood. Two, possibly three, high powered weapons found at the murder scene were from ATF's Fast and Furious program.
Now, as the American people wait for answers from the Justice Dept., we hear stories about this administration laundering money for the same Mexican drug cartels. As these things put a spotlight on the assault on our 2nd Amendment rights, people are taking notice that our gun manufacturing companies are being bought up. In normal times in America, it would be simply a business transaction, but these days it appears to be a trend, rather than an event.
Congress will continue to hold hearings to get to the truth about Fast and Furious, the Energy Dept. payoffs and all of the other scandals plaguing this administration, for that they should be thanked and often. It was law-abiding patriotic ATF agents who came forward and gave the information about Fast and Furious to Congress. Agents who knew that their careers were at jeopardy, put their country first. They all deserve credit for keeping the spotlight on these assaults on our 2nd Amendment rights.
