How to make homemade body lotions

and added to the emulsion. This method is time consuming, but can be satisfying for those who like to work from the beginning. More information can be found on HowToMakeBodyLotion.com. For those who don't want to spend so much time, use the oils mentioned above and purchase some essential oils.

Here is a recipe for a general body lotion: Mix 3/4 cup of carrier oil (olive oil, almond oil, vegetable oil, etc.,)with two tsp. of steric acid and one tsp emulsifying wax and heat until melted. (This may be done in a microwave, but stove-top may produce a better mix.) At the same time, heat 1/2 cup of water with 1/2 tsp of Borax. Mix all ingredients together, adding a few drops of your favorite scent of essence oil. There are numerous variations of this. You can use tea instead of water and add other, different ingredients such as coconut oil, honey, coffee, cocoa, milk, buttermilk, Shea butter and cocoa butter. Keep experimenting until you find what is right for you.

Here is a good face lotion to clean oily skin: Mix 2 tbs liquid castile soap (from a health food store), 1/4 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of water, 2 to 3 drops of lemon grass essential oil, 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil. Use mixture to wash your face.

After experimenting with making your own body lotions, don't stop! You can make face creams, natural soaps, moisturizers, bath salts, bath oils, massage oils, etc. The list is endless. All use similar basic ingredients and a little time and imagination. Treat yourself to a new, relaxing, money saving hobby. You'll be glad you did!
