Is hope a blessing or a curse? Hope can enable us to carry on against even the most extreme adversity. But it can also fail us. We can continue to suffer under intolerable burdens believing in hope, when striving against adversity and resistance to abuse might be the better options, if not for ourselves, at least for our children.
Why do we live in the world that we live in? Some of our religions tell us it is because we are born in sin, that we have fallen from paradise. Is this really a divine perception or a genetically inherited memory of natural calamities? Either way, I would call it grotesque. Can we consider any God that would consider it acceptable to persecute the unborn children of even the worst possible sinners just, let alone "merciful", to be in any way worthy of our worship? I would and will take responsibility for what I do, but I fail to see how I can be held to account for the actions of an ancestor who lived thousands of years before I was born!
If we are so feeble and poor in the sight of the Divine, why is it that so many of the most wealthy and powerful decision-makers in our societies, past and present, have been such venal, greedy, power-hungry and to be quite blunt, essentially evil pieces of scum!
Our perception of history is of a steadily improving ethical human society based on progressing civilization. But if there is one thing that historians agree on, it is that the victors write the history books. And the victors in history are NEVER the common people, no matter what may be claimed by our supposed leaders at the conclusion of one of the very, very many wars that have occurred so relentlessly throughout our supposedly civilized history. Wars that kill or cripple the common man while the vanquished noble rich are dined and catered to by their noble opponents before being ransomed home hale and hearty.
Is there any true hope in today's global human society, or is it all make-believe? How is it possible that the vast majority of a human global population numbering 7 billion can accept and bow under the domination and manipulation of a relative handful of people who, despite anything they might claim, cannot in any way, shape or form, justify their control over the vast majority of OUR world's resources.
Let's face it. On a pure accounting basis, that is monetary basis, the apparent be all and end all of civilization in the developed nations of the world, most of the starving poor in the world's developing nations are BETTER
