It is time to close the opening, once you have your soft toy sewn together and stuffed. The hard part of the craft project is complete. Finishing off the seam that is open from applying stuffing is the final touch to your project.

Fabric Glue Method to Finish Soft Toy Seam

Fabric glue is available in craft stores and general large wholesale stores. The advantage to using craft glue over sewing is it is simple and quick. You do not need a sewing machine to get the neat appearance on the final seam.

Turn the edge of the fabric inward. You do not want any raw fabric edges showing on the toy. Apply a thin line of fabric glue to one of the edges. Hold the edges together for approximately five-minutes. This allows the glue and fabric to set.

Put the toy in a safe place and allow to completely dry for another 48 hours. This will make certain the fabric and glue adhere to one another. It’s simple, quick and easy to do.

Hand-Sewing Method to Finish Toy Seam

Another method to finish off the soft toy is to hand-sew the final seam area. Tuck in all the batting for the stuffed toy. Fold the raw edges of the toy seam inward toward the center of the soft toy. T

Thread a needle with a neutral color thread. Insert the needle and hand-stitch the seam closed. Make certain that no batting ends up lose and sticking out of the seam edge.

Sewing Machine Method to Finish Toy Seam

The final method that you can use to finish off a soft toy seam is to use the sewing machine. Turn the edges of the seam inward on the stuffed toy. Seal the seam with straight pins. Make certain the straight pins are all facing the same direction. Place the seam area under the footer of the sewing machine that is already threaded with the appropriate thread color. Sew the seam shut. Trim any loose threads with a pair of sharp scissors.

The toughest part of making the soft stuffed toy was creating the design, sewing the edges and stuffing it with batting or other stuffing material. For the final seam, you can use the glue method to quickly secure the edging. You can sew the final edge by hand or use a conventional sewing machine. The choice is completely up to you. The key is to make certain no batting peaks out of the edging and ruins the look and feel of the stuffed soft toy.
