Poetry: A moment

In a moment my life was changed

My hope and goals all rearranged

As if destiny chose to alter my fate

A lesson in the chase of love and hate

When in the grip of a crime to commit

My heart full of hate, wallowing in it

Revenge was mine, the name of the game

Thought and reason were all the same

I would take the life of a man so mean

Even the score is what rectitude deemed

He so unfeeling and vile as to hurt a child

I had envisioned this time for quite awhile

With weapon in hand, fully equipped

I now had his life firmly in my grip

He fell to his knees, as he pleaded to live

But in my hate I had no mercy to give

As the moment neared, a thought appeared

Do this and you and he are all the same

You know what's right, you know my name

No matter the grudge, he is mine to judge

Needless to say I let him away

My heart mellow, even for this fellow

I felt a glow as if a life anew

Knowing, well, he got his due
