“The Good Wife” is a dramatization of the life of Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies). She's the wife behind fictional public figure, Peter Florrick (Chris Noth). The first episode in the series revealed the political scandal that changed her life. Like similar real life dramas, Peter confessed openly at a press conference. He acknowledged some wrongdoings and clandestine affairs with prostitutes; and Alicia stood by his side, although she wasn't very happy happy about it. Peter was ousted from his job and went to prison for his alleged crimes, but Alicia was there for him. She was a good and loyal wife indeed, but even a good wife can take only so much.

From housewife to lawyer

For 17 years Alicia had been "The Good Wife." She filled the roles of housewife and mother to children Grace and Zach. With a husband in jail, she had to jump start her long abandoned legal career to support her family. Thank goodness for ex boyfriend Will Gardner (Josh Charles). As senior partner at the law firm Lockhart-Gardner, he brought Alicia on board as a junior associate. She started at the bottom, but learned the ropes and quickly became a valuable asset to the staff. Before long that old attraction between Alicia and Will began to resurface, but they resisted.

Alicia found a friend in Kalinda

As the firm's in-house investigator, feisty Kalinda Sharma did whatever she needed to do to get the job done. She once pulled out a baseball bat to smash the windshield of a man who had pushed her too far. Fortunate for Alicia, Kalinda chose her as an ally instead of an enemy. Kalinda helped Alicia wade through office politics. She dogged the trail of evidence to help defend her most complicated cases. When Alicia needed a friend to share cocktails at the end of a long day, Kalinda was there as well. Eventually the two women grew close, but not quite as close as some of Kalinda's other female friends. In Season 2, Kalinda resolved the ongoing speculation about her sexual preferences when she openly kissed her former Lesbian lover in a bar.

Diane became Alicia's mentor

Will brought Alicia into the firm, but Diane Lockart (Christine Baranski) became her mentor. Diane was a tough administrator and a skilled litigator. She allowed Alicia opportunities to prove herself and enough understanding to allow her to recover from her mistakes. When it came time for staff cuts, Diane made sure Alicia had a place in the firm.
