Just as you don’t wear the same outfit every day, hairstyles should be changed frequently. A change in hairstyle can create a dramatically different look and it can add dimension to the same old hair color and length. Whether it’s the woman with naturally straight hair going curly for the day or the naturally curly haired woman trying to achieve some extra bounce, anyone can create a head full of curls.
The process is a little different depending on the natural curl already in the hair and the amount of curl desired. Curly hair varies from slightly wavy to springy tight curls, so there is a wide variety of ways that you can change up your hairstyle.
Rollers
Rollers are a great way to achieve a head full of curls, especially since you are guaranteed not to accidentally forget to curl a section of your hair. Every last strand will be curled as long as you properly section off the hair in manageable pieces. Some rollers can be set overnight and others can be heated, so you can use them and get them out quickly.
Depending on the size of the roller, curls can come out tight or loose. However, a good tip to have the curl hold all day is to spritz the sections with hair spray before wrapping them up in the roller and then give it an all over spritz after all the sections are rolled up. Just make sure that you don’t overdo it with the hairspray because it can cause the rollers to stick when you try to unroll them. Also, it can make the curls crunchy or make the curls uneven when the rollers are taken out.
Curling iron
Curling irons come in all shapes and sizes from big and fat to skinny and crimpy. Each curling iron creates a different kind of curl. However, it’s important to properly section off your hair while you curl because it can be particularly hard to make sure to curl each strand evenly. Women with thick or layered hair will have increased difficulty making sure all the curls are even, so it’s more important for them to section off their hair in small proportions.
There are some common mistakes made when using a curling iron. Many women start the curling iron at the bottom of the strands and then curl upwards towards the scalp. This can create a crimped edge, especially for woman with layered or textured ends.
