Key word……”Party”! Unless you’re attending a medical convention and health issues are the topic of the day, please avoid talking about your health issues. All of us are busy and seldom seem to have time to get out with friends and families to just relax and party.
The last thing anyone wants to hear about when they’re trying to relax and enjoy themselves is someone else’s health problems and woes. It is not that we don’t care, but it is simply not the appropriate place or time. You are at the party to get away from problems and so you don’t want to take on the problems of others during this “down time”.
Your health issues are real or real to you but a party setting is not the place to bring up these issues. Call your close friends and/or relatives to discuss medical concerns and if necessary, arrange a time to sit and talk with them. People are going to avoid you at a party setting if you are one of those people who want to spend your time discussing health issues. You will also find yourself not being invited to parties if you gain the reputation of being this type of person on habitual basis.
Always remember why you went to a party and respect the other party members that are at this party and don’t spoil their evening with your problems. Your close friends and family are the ones you need to being talking with and/or your doctor; don’t make such an important issue as your health become party chatter that is dismissed.
I would like to also warn you of a big disadvantage to you in discussing health issues at a party is “wrong advice”. How many times have you discussed health issues without receiving advice on what to do about the issue? It is human nature to walk away, ignore or want to give advice when some one is relating their problems to us. If you are given the wrong advice and follow that advice, you could cause your health problems to worsen. Remember you more important than idle chatter about your health issues so save those discussions for your doctor that can help you resolve the issue. If it’s just a sympathetic ear you need, refer to my earlier advice and save it for an appropriate time.
Do you find that you are not able to focus on anything but your health issues and try as you may, can not prevent yourself from talking about the issues? If this is your problem, I would suggest you avoid a party which is not fair to you or consult your doctor regarding this issue and seek help. This can be a serious issue just as any of your other medical issues that needs to be addressed so that you can receive the appropriate health care.
You are important and health issues are distressing but a party is not the place to get help or sympathetic ear for these problems. Good luck on resolving all your health issues.
