Differences between men and women explored

by Sonia-Doris Andras

Created on: November 21, 2011

Men and women were created genetically and physiologically different, and that is no secret. Therefore, the biggest problem in creating functioning relationships between men and women lies in the fact that they were built differently and for more or less opposite purposes. In other words, men and women act and react in their own specific ways. Not to enter too much in the realms of biology and other related scientific fields, before talking about relationships, there are certain issues that need to be addressed. First, as previously mentioned, men and women act differently: while women are incredibly empathic (the female intuition) and survive by communication and interaction, men are - so to say - less complicated and rely on sending specific messages with the smallest effort possible. Second, men and women's bodies have visible and invisible differences that end up ruining the flux of messages between lovers, parents, friends, colleagues, etc. Third, women have been kept in the private space and away from important decision making for eons, and some men have gotten so used to their privileged position, that they impose this archaic and unjust way of life to the women in their lives, including their mothers in some cases. Of course, these problems can be solved in same-sex couples, but, in the end, other minor problems in heterosexual couples are augmented or highlighted (like snoring or other bad habits, personal hygiene, etc.). There are of course other problems that both types of couples face in their relationship, like cheating, money issues, and so on.

The problem of communication between men and women is the lack of it. As previously mentioned, men and women have different ways of sending and receiving messages. On a cognitive level, women are more prone to form social relations and mingle in large groups, while men have the tendency to use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach on things. One of the biggest problems in a relationship is that each of the two communicates in his or her own language and don't bother to translate their message or their partner's message. In other words, she will suffer because he doesn't tell her he loves her and other sweet things that women like to say and subsequently expect from their partners. He will be annoyed because she can't stop talking and feels like having a conversation when he is doing something important like watching a game or fixing the remote control. How to solve this? If you're a woman,
