The Compton Heights neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri is located directly south of Interstate 44. It contains the Compton Hill Reservoir Park. It is bordered by South Grand Boulevard to the west, Shenandoah Avenue to the south, Nebraska Avenue to the east and Interstate 44 to the north. For more detailed location information, click here.
To the north are Terry Park, Buder Park, St. Louis University Medical Center and Tiffany Park. To the west is the Shaw Neighborhood Dog Park and the Missouri Botanical Garden. To the south are more neighborhoods, Benton Park and Fox Park. To the east is Eads Park, Lafayette Park, the junction of Interstate 44 and Interstate 55 and Lafayette Square Community Garden Co-op.
The neighborhood is highly educated. Though some have no High School Diploma, most have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. There are even a few residents who have Doctorate Degrees. This is a very well-to-do neighborhood with incomes ranging from over $50,000 to close to $70,000 per year. The neighborhood is very tiny, at under .4 square miles, yet not extremely dense with over 1,300 residents. Housing values are all over the charts. The low ends are people paying next to nothing, and on the high end homes are worth over $1,000,000.
There is a fairly even distribution of children of all ages, college-aged adults, and young adults. The highest number of people are older adults and middle-aged people. There is a low amount of elderly people residing in Compton Heights. Though over half of all the residents living here are Caucasians African-Americans, Asians, and at least three other races of people live here as well. The median income for the entire state of Missouri is $45,229 per year. The median income for the Compton Heights neighborhood is over $61,000 per year. The crime rating for the city of St. Louis is a 1 out of a possible 100, where 100 is the best possible score. The neighborhood of Compton Heights has moderate to low scores regarding crime. There are a good number of neighborhoods which have much worse crime, but the majority of neighborhoods have less crime than Compton Heights.
