How to express gratitude at Thanksgiving: Music

Music has the ability to stir the human heart in a profound and personal way.  When offered up to the Lord, it moves us to worship Him for His great power and gracious kindness to us.  Music can also be given as a gift of gratitude to those we love and appreciate.  The following article explains several ways to do that during the Thanksgiving season.

Music unto the Lord:

Express your thanks to the Lord in lifting up your heart and voice - or a musical instrument - in praise to Him.  You can do this in private or in a public setting as your personal declaration of thanks.  There are many stories and passages in the Holy Bible about the role of music in worship.

David, the shepherd boy, used his lyre or harp to soothe the sheep and sing unto the Lord.  He wrote many psalms (songs accompanied by a musical instrument) and is known as the "sweet singer of Israel."  When we express our joy and thanks in music to the Lord, we are to express our praise with a pure heart and mind focused on God - not on how we sound or what others think.

Musical gifts for others:

It is also appropriate to express our thanks and gratitude for what others mean to us, and music is a special way of doing that. Why not consider the following ideas and tips for music-themed gifts:

Music-lover gifts:

For the music lover on your list, check out Albert's, where you'll find just about everything - from music boxes to mugs, candles to clocks, posters to piggy banks, and toys to telephones - all with a musical theme.  They also feature clothing and accessories, games and puzzles.

You can also give a gift card or certificate from Apple.com/iTunes in denominations of fifteen, twenty-five or fifty dollars.  Or, if you know where your recipient shops, a gift certificate to their favorite music store is sure to be appreciated.   Other ideas might be a book about their favorite musician, a subscription to a music magazine  or tickets to an upcoming concert.

Music for the holidays:

What better way to kick off the season than with the newest compositions by Mannheim Steam Roller, The Boston Pops, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Celtic Woman or another favorite group?   Or, give someone a CD of their favorite musician, instead.  The choices of music will be as varied as the people you choose to gift.

DVD’s and videos are another way to show your gratitude to someone at Thanksgiving.  For a blast from the past,
