Poetry: The meaning of success

by Gary Maclean

Created on: November 20, 2011   Last Updated: February 10, 2012

What does it mean to be successful?
Does it mean riches, love and fame?
Is there more to life than possessions?
How will I know I've won the game?

Must I meet someones criteria?
In order to claim my success.
Is there a set of rules to follow?
Will I only pass under stress?

Success to me means my happiness.
I have met my personal goals.
No matter what my intentions are.
I'm not dependent on the polls.

If I believe I am successful
If I have met my wants and needs
Regardless money, fame or lovers
I have made it or so my obit reads

Success is no more than satisfaction
With the accomplishments in your life
Whatever you want, if you've done it
Including home, job, car and wife

Don't ever let man's interpretation
Of anything misguide your intent
You have you and you alone to please
Before its over and life is spent

The meaning of success is yours to say
Whatever it takes to make your day
No rules, no directions on how to play
When its over, it was done your way
