I like to use a pencil now and then
To hear the graphite scratch across the page
And bring to mind the memories of when
Simplicity graced the entire age.
This obsolescent, skinny stick of wood
Symbolizes life sans complication
A time we took for granted, which was good
And free of needless technical frustration.
I think of random sketches, spelling tests
Of scribbling a short memo to a friend
Convection ovens, hand-written requests
Mundane routines I hoped would never end.
There was no rapid pace to break the peace
So wishing I were in the past again
An exercise that sets my mind at ease
I like to use a pencil now and then.

Take this pencil from my face
This piece of paper from my space
I do not feel like writing any poetry today

Pencil and paper,
primitive tools,

Some call it old-fashion
For many its obsolete
Personally for me though
It simply can't be beat
The feel of the pencil
Pencils overflowing
spilling longing
all over my page
A messy contrivance of
shadow lines unreal
words giving lie to themselves
A marriage of pencil and paper
creates a union which gives birth
to a wailing of words.
Words born from experience...
or not.
