What to do with fine hair

To speak of fine hair as being a curse may seem too strong a term but for those who struggle to add body to their limp hair, it is probably an apt description. The problem for those who have fine hair is that they find it very difficult to style it in the way they want and give it a fullness that remains in place. There are a number of things that can be done with hair that is fine by nature so that it no longer proves to be a problem. Here are a few suggestions.

Try Cutting It Shorter

Reducing the length of your hair is one way to cope with hair that is fine and lacks body. Short hair is more manageable than long hair and especially so if your hair lacks natural curl. When hair is long, it tends to lie much flatter on your head due to the weight alone. So it will help to keep your hair a bit shorter so that when you use hair volumisers, there is more likelihood your hair will stay in place.

Avoid Using Hair Straighteners

It has become the fashion now for women to straighten their hair which is the last thing you need to do if you have fine hair. Using hair straighteners only serves to exacerbate the problem and can leave your hair looking rather flat. If you want more body, it will help if you dry off your hair after washing and leave it to set naturally. This will give a touch more volume to your hair.

Add Body While Drying Your Hair

After washing your hair, avoid using a hairdryer. Towel-drying your hair until is a touch damp means you can then use your fingers or a brush to tease your hair into a style that looks more full-bodied. Using a hairdryer will tend to make your hair a bit frizzy at first and then it will settle, leaving your hair flat again. The towel-dry method should give your hair more natural volume that will last longer.

Use Volumisers

Using a good volumiser will help to some extent. It will not make your hair less fine, but it will temporarily add body that should last for a reasonable period of time. The shorter your hair is, the better the volumiser will work. It can be difficult to add volume to long, fine hair. Keep in mind that a volumiser will only be temporary but should do what you need for an evening out.

If you have fine hair, there is nothing you can do to change that. It may be possible to wear a style that gives it more volume or to use products that enhance your hair. Although we cannot change the texture of our hair, there are some simple things we can do to make the best of it.
