An important part of a joyful Thanksgiving dinner is the seating arrangements. Some families have two tables that are set up, one for the adults and the other for children.  A decorated table makes the guest happy and the meal more appealing. For the children’s table, there are a lot of fun decorations you can buy at your local party or crafts store, or you can become creative and make the decorations yourself.

Here are some decorations that you and your kids can make together.

Pine Cone Turkey table decoration:

Supplies: A pine cone, an acorn or a nut in the shell, brown, red, orange and yellow construction paper, pencil or marker, scissors, hot glue, googly eyes, clay.

Instructions: Cut out feathers with the colored construction paper. Place a small amount of clay on one side of the pine cone (this is to steady it on the table). Glue the feathers to the top of the wide side of the pine cone. The pine cone is the turkey’s body. Then for the turkey’s nose, glue the acorn to the front of the turkey with the hot glue. Glue on the two goggle eyes, and then use a small piece of red construction paper for the turkey’s gizzard. Let glue dry.  It can make a nice centerpiece for the table too.

Turkey Hand place mats: Supplies: red, yellow, orange, brown, construction paper, scissors, black marker, colored markers or crayons, googly eyes, wax paper or contact paper

Instructions: Place child’s hand in the middle of the construction paper. Trace the outline of their hand with a marker or crayon. The outline will serve as the turkey’s body. The thumb will be the turkey’s head and the four fingers will be the turkey’s feathers. Color the turkey’s body then head. Draw an eye with black marker or use  googly eye. Color the feathers, and then draw legs and a gizzard. Place turkey in between two sheets of wax paper or contact paper. If using wax paper, iron the two pieces together.

Thanksgiving Napkin rings:

Supplies: Toilet paper roll or paper towel roll, scissors, glue, markers or crayons, stickers, brown, red, yellow, orange construction paper.

Instructions: Cut the toilet or paper towel roll into rings, about 2 inches wide. Decorate each ring with thanksgiving stickers. Cut colored construction paper into feathers and glue them to the inside of the ring. Place napkin inside the ring.

Turkey place cards:

Supplies: white paper or index card, turkey stamp or stickers, glue, googly
