This is an article which I would like to contribute not because I have a bad boss now but I sympathize with those whom have to report everyday to a boss whom has this bad drinking habit. In the past, I did have this unpleasant experience of working under a drinking problem boss.
The day will start when he comes in late in the morning, from his hangover. He does not seem to be to concentrate when you are trying to talk to him and at times misunderstand your intentions when you try to submit recommendations to work solutions in the office. From the start of my employment with this company, I was then holding up to three head of department positions in this company. There is the marketing department that I have to head, together with events and reception as well. The core business of this company which I'm working with deals with sales of club membership and thus those three departments are important aspects of marketing our membership to the public. My boss is very particular with the growth of these three departments and has entrusted this departments under my care.
Things start to get unstable when his drinking habits becomes a obsession to him. We have a members lounge which sells discounted drinks to our members and hence he will be seen drinking together with members, friends or associates. His drinks will last through till wee mornings of the next day. One fine day, he decides that I was not performing to the standards that he is expecting and to reduce the workload from me from head of three departments to only one which is marketing alone itself. I became despondent, I dread coming to work and facing up to my boss. A few days later, I decided to face up to reality and to face it off with my boss and discuss this movement within the organization. He blatantly refused to see me and takes every opportunity to evade from me. I thought I have done something wrong and wishes to clear this misunderstanding but have not got a chance at all to do it. One fine day, my boss decided to open up to me and told me off, saying that I'm not able to juggle the commitments requested by the company and that I'm more suited to be doing routine task. To top it further, he asks me to keep a cool head and try to understand why the company decides with such a course of actions.
A few days later, I submitted my resignation letter to my human resource department. This experience of working under a boss whom has a bad drinking problem can be a real headache to employees whom are working under them, as they are unable to concentrate and focus with tasks that are laid before them and when someone makes a recommendation, they jump at them with an attitude of "I don't need your help or guidance, I'm able to cope". This is what I have to say working under a bad drinking problem boss.
