Atheism constantly struggles with the accepted religions of the earth, as people who believe in the non-existence of God seek to bring their self truth for others. As of late, the most common target seems to be Christianity, as it is the most popular, and widely accepted religion. This will soon change however, as Islam is on the rise, and is now the worlds fastest growing religion.
Falling under the "Christian" denomination I often engage in debate pertaining with people of agnostic, or atheistic leanings as to better my understanding of both my own faith and there's. In my studies, research and reasoning I have deemed the scientific argument for atheism weak at best.
I will begin my fist installment with the concepts of science and time.
Science is defined as "the study of the physical world and its manifestations, especially by using systematic observation and experiment". By its very definition science can neither prove nor disprove the existence or non-existence of God. God, if the concept works, is not a product of the physical world and therefore cannot be measured by science, because the concept of God relies on him being separate from time, which brings me to my second point.
God must exist outside of time for the concept we have of God to work. it has recently been theorized that "time" as we understand is naught but a by product of the universe. I direct to the excellent work of Stephen Hawking. If this theory is true however, then God could not possibly exist inside our universe, and therefore could never be measured by science.
This however, does not eliminate the possibility of a "divine creator" as a creator cannot truly "exist" as a byproduct of his own creation. Reterocausality is not a solid argument, nor can it be proven scientifically due to our lack of ability to time travel. Therefore, any scientific argument, for or against God simply does not work. The issue of the senses also comes up, and I recommend that everyone interested in this subject read the "Meditations".
While this only begins to scratch the surface of a very interesting and heated debate between believers and non-believers, I hope this helps everyone in their journey towards truth.
