The Southwest Gardens neighborhood stretches from Interstate 44, south to Magnolia Avenue. There is an eastern boundary created by Tower Grove Avenue and an eastern boundary at South Kings Highway Boulevard. A second, and larger, section of the neighborhood connects to the smaller section at South Kings Highway Boulevard. The northern boundary is formed by Southwest Avenue,  Columbia Avenue, and ends at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Southwest Avenue. The western boundary is made up of Southwest Avenue, 59th Street, Arsenal Street, and Hampton Avenue. The Missouri Botanical Garden and Sublette Park are both located in the Southwest Gardens neighborhood. To the north is Interstate 44, Berra Park, Adams Park, Forest park Hospital, Forest park, the St. Louis Zoo, Grand Basin, Kindred Hospital, Washington University, the St. Louis Art Museum Café, Jewel Box, the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, and Interstate 64/Highway 40. To the east is Clifton Heights Park, Francis R. Slay Park, Ryan Hummert Memorial Park, Deer Creek Park and the Essex Manufacturing Division. Interstate 44 runs through this area as well. McDonald, Tilles, Christy, and Francis parks are located to the south along with the Hampton Village Shopping Center and Southtown Centre. To the east is Tower Grove Park, the Shaw Neighborhood Dog Park, Compton Hill Reservoir Park, St. Louis University Medical Center, Fremont Park, Lafayette Park, and Interstate 55.

Income levels in Southwest Gardens are moderate at just under $30,000 per year to over $45,000 per year. The area stretches out at just over 1 square mile, and is moderately dense at over 5,000 residents. Housing prices are decent, ranging between under $50,000 to over $300,000. This is a huge young adult neighborhood, which is no surprise given the number of colleges and universities nearby. There is a decent amount of children living here, and some middle-aged and elderly residents, as well. Though this is a primarily Caucasian neighborhood, Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics, and at least three other races of people reside in Southwest Gardens too. The crime rating for the city of St. Louis, Missouri is 1 out of a possible 100, where 100 is the best possible score. The Southwest Gardens neighborhood does not have the worst, nor does it have the best crime rating in the city. It is boasting moderate crime levels, but is surrounded with various crime levels from the neighboring areas. To the north crime is better, and to the east and west the crime is slightly to moderately worse. The Northampton neighborhood to the south has slightly better crime than Southwest Gardens.
