The Crossroads neighborhood is located between Interstate 35 and Highway 71, south of Interstate 670. The southern border is just north of the small bundle of railroad tracks. Interstate 35 makes up the western boundary, and McGee Street is the eastern boundary. Interstate 670 closes up the neighborhood as the northern boundary. To the north of the Crossroads neighborhood is Mulkey Square, Barney Allis, Ilus W. Davis, and Case parks. The Financial District, Garment District Place, City Market, Columbus Park, and Richard L. Berkley Riverfront Park are also to the north. Farther north, past the river, is the Kansas City Downtown Airport, and two river crossings at Heart of America Bridge on Highway 9 and Broadway Bridge Street on Highway 169. On the eastside is Kansas City Plaza, Prospect Plaza Park, Harmony Park, Freeway Park, and Montgall Park. Interstate 70/Highway 40 is also located in this direction. The south offers Washington Square Park, UMKC School of Medicine, Crown Center, Troost Lake Park, Troost Park, the Metropolitan Community College – Health Science Institute, Penn Valley Junior College, the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial, and Roanoke Park. Finally, to the west is the Missouri-Kansas State line, Mulkey Square Park, the Westside Community Garden, Observation Park and a river crossing at Interstate 670.
Incomes in the Crossroads neighborhood vary from $25,000 to just over $50,000 per year. This is a very tiny neighborhood at just under ½ square miles, but only houses 302 people. Though there are some homes worth hundreds of thousands up to millions of dollars, most homes are priced at under $100,000. The majority of people living here are young to older adults with children. There is a scant amount of middle-aged folks, with a trace of elderly residents. This is primarily a Hispanic neighborhood, but some American Indian, African American, Caucasians, and at least three other ethnic groups live here as well. The crime rating for Kansas city is 4 out of a possible 100, where 100 is the best possible score. The Crossroads neighborhood is split between the worst crime and mediocre crime. The north half of the neighborhood is the best area to live if you have to live in Crossroads. The southern half claims the worst crime in the entire city, along with a handful of other areas.
