Poetry: If I had a million dollars

by Sylvia Harrison

Created on: November 06, 2011

If I had a million dollars

What do you think I'd do?

I would pay off all my debts

Probably just like you!

But what about what's left

To use when all those debts are paid?

I would probably spread some of that

Around and give my family aid.

And, somewhere there along the way

I would try to help a few

Of those people who could use the help

(One of them may be you)

But, if there was a little left

After all is said and done

I do believe I would rest awhile

And sit out in the sun

With my dog, my kids, my rocking chair

My favorite author by my side.

I'd sit along the ocean front

And watch the peaceful tide.

I'd wonder how I got there

And remember all the times

That I could not make ends meet

Saving nickels and dimes.

I'd walk along the shoreline

Wade in water to my knees

I'd say a "well done" to myself

And be thankful for that peace.
