First they said, “We've got to be good to children because they're our future.”
I was a child but they hated me and punished me for retaliating against bullies
They didn't punish the bullies
Then they said, “The Holocaust was dreadful, we should be nice to Jews.”
I didn't hate Jews but they still hated me because I just look Jewish and have a Jewish sounding name
Then they said, “Let's be nice to people who are different and try to understand them.”
I agreed with that as I'm different but they still hated me because I was the wrong sort of different
Then they said, “Let's support women's lib and be nice to women.”
I like women but they still hated me because I'm male
And they felt they needed to protect women from me
Israel said, “Let's allow all Jews to immigrate to our nice restored homeland.”
I agree with that but they won't let me immigrate because I'm not Jewish enough,
And follow the Jewish Messiah
Then they said, “We must be nice to dark skinned races because racism is wrong.”
I agreed with that but they still hated me because I was white

blessings and liberty!
But what a whoa
by Moeze Lalji
A mum is born
Not knowing
How life will pull her
Her eyes of love
Are Olympics
For her champion
Her language
Is primitive
Her jungle
Corridor, a life unlived
door-lined and endless
closed
opened
locked
broken
Keys, dangling
hand-clasped and ready
skeleton key

I was a child but they hated
by Ted Sherman
Each one deserves a fair shake;
Equal opportunity for all.
More to give and less to take,
Will break down hatred’s wall.
