Poetry: Identity

by Morgan Carlson

Created on: November 05, 2011   Last Updated: November 07, 2011

My identity is fleeting, and it evades me day to day,
an unknown person in the mirror, living a different way.
Though I ask who they are, I never hear their reply,
more often than not, they leave me the answer 'why?'

'Why is it important' to search for their identity.
'why not be content, with the person I see?'
But the person is confusion, an enigma in human form,
a destiny caught between, emotions cool and warm.

Inside is a darkness, that is hidden by the light,
outside there is deception, and an obvious plight.
Which of the forces is stronger, the good or the bad;
which one enforces happiness, which is just mad?

Maybe I'll never know, but that's my identity,
a life caught between extremes, a living duality.
