There are three things you can do when you have a high needs baby and still need to get some sleep yourself.
1) Sleep when the baby sleeps. Be sure you have a baby monitor or sleep in the same room as the baby so you will be available if there are any problems. Also, set an alarm if you need to wake at a specific time to give the baby medicine. But, whenever the baby takes a nap, you take one too.
2) Sleep in shifts. A spouse, an older child, a grandparent, or even an aunt or uncle can help take turns staying up with a wide awake baby while you get some sleep. Neither of you will get a "full night's" sleep; but, you will both get some sleep.
3) Hire some help. Most people cannot afford full time help with a high needs child; but, hiring someone to care for the child even one night every week or two will allow you time to recharge. Just make sure the person is qualified, reliable, and knows the child's needs.
These three tips should help you get enough sleep to take care of your child and still function.
