Another day, another place,
but waiting for results is all the same,
my life on hold until
they say the tests are clear
and I must come again next year
But in my heart I feel
this time it could be different.
A tighter smile, a longer gaze
from the clinician,
imagination runs wild
What reaction would grip me
if the news was bad, if my
life was ebbing despite
my active brain?
How would I tell the others
embedded in my world?
Who would feed the dog,
put out the rubbish,
buy the children's presents,
cuddle him in bed.
Would they even notice
or would their lives stutter
for a moment then regroup
and spark again?
The moment's come,
the scan's complete,
the die is cast, I know.
We found another mass
inside your lungs,
we cannot operate again,
new drugs and rest may help.
My clock is ticking fast.

If I die tomorrow,
at least I lived today.
And if I lose myself,
I know I'll find my way.
While I wander through
