Standing on the hill
Overlooking the cemetery
The many tombs embellished
With red, white and blue emblems
Stand in eternal memoriam
To those who died
So that others did not have to die.
The grass is always greenest
When fertilized with the blood
Of a million men.
Let the world not forget.
It is so easy to forget.
Lurid visions flash through the mind
Of countless soldiers
Charging through thick, black smoke
Trampling over mangled corpses
And detonating land mines.
Half of them are blown away
And more are sent to replace them.
People take so much for granted.
Especially those who have never had
To fight for freedom
To bleed for justice
To die for honor.
But those who died
Had they lived
Would have known well the full meaning.
For one day
Let the grand, bustling world
In all its splendor
Be silent
And remember.

Poetry: Memorial Day
Brave young sergeant
So young, so beautiful
It's the night before deportation
And he's thinking hard.
Brave young wife
So young,
DRESS BLUES
His uniform, it gathers dust,
And yet she keeps it, as she must.
For since she heard the word, bereft,
It's all

A Memorial Wreath ~
A poetic wreath I weave today
For those who've gone before us.
Come join me now - become a part
Of this

Memorial Day Sonnet
If Liberty means anything to me,
I will remember what my freedom cost,
By those who gave their all to keep
